Eat Smart, Stay Strong

When the going gets tough, the immune cells get going. They need to divide and develop quickly when they are needed by the immune system. Vitamins such as vitamin C, vitamin D, folic acid, vitamin A, and vitamin B2 contribute to the normal function of the immune system. Just like zinc, which plays a role in cell division. If too many “radicals” are formed in the body, which may be caused by environmental influences or stress, the body experiences oxidative stress. Antioxidants like vitamin C, vitamin E, and vitamin B2 help to protect cells against oxidative stress. Other happy helping antioxidants are trace elements zinc, selenium, copper, and manganese.

The mucous membranes of the respiratory tract also play an important role as a protective barrier against germs of all kinds. Vitamin A, vitamin B2, and biotin contribute to the maintenance of normal mucous membranes. Furthermore, vitamin D is indispensable for the immune system. Only if there is enough of it, the body’s defense is mobilized, in order to fight against unwanted germs.

What can you do?

Eat at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits daily (3 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruit). This corresponds to around 400g of vegetables daily (e.g. 200g of cooked vegetables and 200g of raw food/salad) and about 250g of fruit. Take your hand as reference for how large your individual serving size should be. The amount of food that fit into your hand suits your age and your body size.

What can FitLine do for you?
